Across the world, millions live with vision problems that could be prevented or treated. The Cure Blindness Project has helped over 1.4 million people restore their sight through surgery and provided care to more than 14 million people. We’re expanding our work in Ethiopia and are now hiring passionate and skilled individuals to help us reach even more communities.
Job Summary
We are looking for Individual Contractors to support eye health programs in Oromia and Sidama regions. In this role, you will work closely with community health workers, nurses, and local government offices to make sure people get early treatment for eye problems. You will also help train health professionals, collect reports, and keep everything running smoothly in the field.
Key Responsibilities
Program Implementation:

Coordinate training for nurses and public health officers

Support community awareness activities through health workers and health extension workers

Work closely with health offices, hospitals, and other partners

Share regular updates and raise any concerns with the Program Manager

Help organize and lead meetings with health officials and local stakeholders

Visit health centers and hospitals to collect reports, identify challenges, and check on referred patients

Monitor program progress and help improve performance where needed
Stakeholder Engagement:
-
Serve as the main point of contact for all activities in the assigned project areas

Collaborate with government offices, hospitals, and eye care units to ensure smooth program implementation

Identify problems and help health workers find solutions
-
Track referrals and support follow-up care for patients

Represent the program at local health meetings and provide regular feedback
Reporting and Documentation:
-
Collect and review monthly reports from health facilities
-
Prepare and share reports with the Program Manager
-
Ensure accurate and timely data entry into the program’s online database
-
Support data quality improvement and provide guidance to healthcare workers when needed
Qualifications and Experience
-
BSc in Ophthalmic Nursing or Optometry with at least 4 years of work experience, or
-
MPH or MSc with a BSc in Ophthalmic Nursing or Optometry and 2 years of experience
-
Prior experience working with NGOs is a plus
Required Skills

Strong communication and teamwork skills

Ability to work independently and manage time well

Good knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities

Ability to support patients and health workers with care and patience

Willingness to travel regularly to rural health facilities
