Job Overview
The GAVI REACH Health Officer will be based in the Tigray region (Northwest, Central, and South zones), working to ensure that Zero Dose Children (ZDC) and underserved communities receive high-quality immunization services as part of integrated Primary Health Care (PHC). The role involves supporting training delivery, surveillance system strengthening, community engagement, and technical leadership in immunization programming.
Key Responsibilities

Coordinate micro-plan development for immunization and Supplementary Immunization Activities (SIAs), with a focus on hard-to-reach and underperforming areas.

Map missed communities and develop strategies to ensure vaccine reach to ZDC and remote populations.

Manage cold chain logistics including vaccine forecasting, requisition, stock management, and distribution.

Support planning and supervision of field activities, supply delivery, and team mentoring.

Develop and implement Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) action plans.

Work with stakeholders to design and distribute risk communication and community mobilization materials.

Support adverse event detection and management post-immunization.
-
Use data and reports to identify gaps and make evidence-based improvements.

Represent IRC in regional technical meetings and health clusters.
Monitoring & Evaluation

Compile and submit weekly, monthly, and quarterly progress reports.

Oversee and assess social mobilization activities.

Evaluate program effectiveness and recommend strategy adjustments.

Ensure accurate data collection using EPI monitoring frameworks.
Safeguarding Responsibilities

Promote inclusive, respectful, and safe environments within IRC and partner teams.

Uphold IRC’s safeguarding and protection policies.
About You
Educational Requirements:
-
Diploma, BSc, MSc in Nursing, Public Health, or Medical Doctor (MD) from a recognized institution.
Experience:
-
Minimum of 2 years (BSc/MD) or 5 years (Diploma) of relevant experience.

Prior experience in immunization, emergency health, and/or PHEM is preferred.

Experience with Zero-Dose Children (ZDC) strategies is an advantage.

Proven ability in community engagement and participatory approaches.
Skills and Competencies:

Strong project coordination and report writing skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively under pressure.

Commitment to ethical conduct, inclusivity, and cultural sensitivity.
Language Requirements:

Excellent communication in English. Fluency in local languages is a plus.
Licensing:

Must have a valid and renewed professional license.
